CUI Inc’s new MA-17 encoder provides 8 bits of absolute position data in a thumbnail-sized package. This encoder combines the lean wiring of a miniature unit with the precision of typically larger absolute encoders. Only 180 grams, the MA-17 supports a maximum radial and axial shaft load of 200 gf.

The MA-17 requires 5VDC input supply voltage with a 35mA max current. An open collector output circuit works with standard negative logic, producing precise gray code output. The frequency response is 20kHz.

CUI offers shaft or hollow shaft MA-17 encoders at a max bore of Ø2mm. The efficiency of this tool lends itself to robotics, medical devices manufacturing, or other projects that demand compact, absolute encoder precision.
