Power supplies are a key component when it comes to electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In medical applications, devices within the patients vicinity must have appropriate means of protection and EMC based on the intended use environment, according to IEC 60601-1. This article reviews the impact that the use environment has on means of protection and EMC requirements.
